If You’re Shocked By Laura Ingraham’s Latest Comments, You Haven’t Been Paying Attention

I watched with amusement at the outrage over FOX News commentator Laura Ingraham’s latest comments bemoaning the browning of America. My first thoughts were “Are they surprised?” Ingraham has been spouting this kind of white nationalist rhetoric for years. In fact, it’s probably the reason why FOX News hired her. She fits their business model, even if they won’t openly admit it.

The average age of a FOX News viewer is 68 and they are socially and politically conservative. This is their bread and butter. The reason why FOX News has thrived is because it understands it’s audience.

They want to see stories about how minorities, liberals and gays are leading America to hell in a handbasket. They want to hear about how Latino gang members are pouring across the border to rape their daughters and dilute the gene pool. And they want to hear how President Donald Trump rescued the economy from the hands of Barack Obama, a secret Muslim who wanted to give black people reparations. It doesn’t matter if none of that is accurate, it fits their narrative.

Media Matters, a liberal media watchdog, has been tracking Ingraham’s comments and they confirm this is not new behavior. According to Media Matters listed 52 of her comments backing white nationalism. Some of those gems including advocating executing illegal immigrants to deter others, and claiming multiculturalism leads to terrorism.

A few months ago, she temporary disappeared from the airwaves after she told NBA star and philanthropist LeBron James to stay away from politics and “shut up and dribble.”

FOX News’ white nationalism was evident long before the arrival of Ingraham. Bill O’Reilly, who was fired for sexually harassing multiple women and paying millions in settlements, once used the word “wetback” to refer to Mexican migrants. And Eric Bolling, who was canned for sending unsolicited pictures of his penis to female co-workers, was disciplined when he accused Obama of “drinking 40s,” and having “hoods” in the White House.

Tucker Carlson has turned his one-hour prime-time show into a forum for airing white grievances. He recently hosted Tommy Morrison, a convicted white nationalist thug, whose main goal is to eliminate Muslim immigration to Britain. Morrison thanked Carlson, and the U.S. government, for their lobbying efforts to get him out of his latest stint in jail.

In 2009, former FOX News commentator John Gibson made an even more explicitly racist comment. He responded to a report about changing demographics by telling white people to “have more babies.”

Unfortunately, FOX News’ politics have fused with the Republican party and now the Trump White House.

According to Salon writer Chauncey DeVega, “The Republican Party is America’s largest white identity organization. The Democratic Party is a multiracial coalition. And for those few Republicans and other conservatives who do not possess racial hostility towards non-whites, Trump’s racism and bigotry are not disqualifying factors in their support for him. “

Ingraham, and her ilk, have been making these kinds of comments for a long time. The only difference is now, like the neo-Nazis who marched in Charlottesville, N.C., they’re not bothering to hide anymore.
